I was looking around at objects in my house and focussed in on something that means so much to me. Not because of the $ amount, but because of the story that goes with it...
When I was a child, my grandma and grandpa had a CUCKOO CLOCK hanging on their wall in their living room above the chair where my dad always sat when we came to visit. I loved to stand on his lap so I could get closer to the clock - I waited and waited for the little door to open so I could see the little bird come out and cuckoo.
My dad could see that I loved this clock and he told me several times that someday he would buy me my own Cuckoo Clock. They were expensive and my parents didn't have extra money to spend, so I knew it was only a dream to have my own Cuckoo Clock. Years went by and my interest in the Cuckoo Clock was forgotten.
After I was married and living in Northern California with two little boys, my parents came to visit and they brought me a present. I started to cry when I opened the box to find MY VERY OWN CUCKOO CLOCK. My dad never forgot that promise he made to me many years before, and finally, when he felt like he could afford it, he fulfilled his promise. We hung it up that day and it has been hanging on my wall of every house we have lived in since and it makes me smile.
Even though this clock doesn't match the rest of my house, I love that it reminds me that I should always keep my promises and it reminds me of the love of my father, who passed away almost 8 years ago.
I have a few others items that deserve to have a story written about them. Do you have objects in your home that have a story? You should write them!
